For Kids' Sake Fund Grants

Grant Guidelines:


The For Kids Sake Fund, or the Ontario Endowment for Children and Youth in Recreation, was established in partnership with the Province of Ontario and donors from across Temiskaming and the Tri Town community.

The Temiskaming Foundation solicits and accepts grant applications from organizations that meet our funding guidelines.

A voluntary Advisory Committee recommends grants to the Grant Making Committee of the Board. The Advisory Committtee are chosen for their knowledge and understanding of issues relating to children and youth, and are appointed for a 1-year term. The Advisory Committee consists of 8 members including high school representatives from T.D.S.S. and E.S.C.S.M., and representatives from municipal recreation, cultural organizations, education, Ontario Provinical Police, health. The Committee is chaired by a Board member.


If your group would like to apply for a grant make sure you are eligible. In order to be eligible, you must:

    be recognized as a registered charity with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, or be sponsored by a registered charity, municipality or school board;
    serve the District of Temiskaming south, an area from Temagami in the south, Englehart to the north, Elk Lake to the west and Belle Vallee to the east;
    provide "community recreation", which for the purposes of this fund means sport, recreation, fitness, youth leadership, camping and outdoor education, playgroups, the arts and cultural activities;
    provide programming to children and yoth of less than 18 years of age.


Criteria used to determine grants shall include the following:

    makes the community a better place to live
    improves the quality of life for children and youth with preference given to services and programs that enable disabled children and youth to participate
    provides safe, supervised, healthy activities
    makes services available without discrimination
    offers physical and/or mental and/or creative stimulation
    provides activities for children and youth outside of school
    provides long reaching benefits to a broader range of participants 


Grants are not made towards:

    Religious or political purposes
    Operating expenses
    Deficit reduction
    fundraising campaigns
    Capital building campaigns

Grant Deadlines

There are three grant cycles each year. Programs that run throughout the year may apply for a grant in any grant cycle. Applications will be accepted at any time.

Spring/Summer Programs: February 28th deadline for grant applications

Fall/Winter Programs: April 30th and September 30th deadlines for grant applications

Decisions are to be made within 2 months.

The Application Process

Ask these important preliminary questions:

    Does your organization share the same objectives as The Temiskaming Foundation?
    Is your organization eligible? 

If your can answer the above questions with satisfaction, complete the For Kids' Sake Grant Application Form (click to load PDF), in its entirety.

Include the required attachments:

    Copy of document assigning registered charitable status
    List of volunteer board or governing body
    Current operating budget
    Most revent financial statements, audited if available
    Supporting documents pertinent to the activity or program for which you are applying  

At the conclusion of your project the Foundation requires you conduct an evaluation. Our Evaluation Form will be included with your grant cheque and is expected within six months of the completion of your project.
