Herbert C. Sweetnam Fund

Mr.Herbert Sweetnam was principal of New Liskeard Public School from 1933 to 1966. He is well remembered by his students as a progressive and innovative educator and distinguished member of the community. The majestic pines and spruces in front of the Centre Block and beside the West Block stand as a tribute to his vision. Saturday morning hockey and the trees planted along the Wabi to stop erosion are continuing memorials.

As part of the NLPS Centennial Reunion The Temiskaming Foundation established a memorial fund to honour Herb Sweetnam and perpetuate the activities he started at NLPS and in the community.

The income of the Herbert C. Sweetnam Fund is used annually for the betterment of the New Liskeard community and NLPS to assist in keeping it the progessive school Mr. Sweetnam established and has been continued by Lloyd Wilson and succeeding principals. In the first year the income was used towards the planting of 100 trees on the school ground and in the community!
