Eric E. Smith Fund

The Temiskaming Festival of Music will continue to benefit from one of its tlong time supporters. Sally Cameron daughter of Eric E. Smith established a named fund within the Festival of Music Fund to honour her father and his life long commitment to music.

Sally Cameron said “ My dad came from his home in Toronto when he was 20 years old to teach music in the tri-town area. He taught private lessons in violin playing as well as a variety of instruments. He founded and conducted a community orchestra called the Haydn Concert Orchestra which brought together players from three towns of New Liskeard, Haileybury and Cobalt. The orchestra presented two concerts of classical music per year over a thirty year period. Dad also was hired by the school boards of the three towns to teach music and conduct an orchestra and band in the high schools. He was president of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers Association, and an active worker in the annual music festival where an award is still presented in his name. All this music effort ceased when my dad died unexpectedly and prematurely in 1957 at 53 years of age.”
