Bruce Lonsdale Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund was established by friends, colleagues and family from donations and the proceeds from a memorial dinner. Bruce was born on November 10, 1949 and began his political career when he was elected to Cobalt Council at the age of 24. He served on council until 1976. He then ran successfully as mayor where he gained national recognition for his leadership during the Great Cobalt fire disaster of 1977.  He was then enticed into federal politics. He was elected as a Liberal member of Parliament for the riding of Temiskaming in 1980 and served there until his untimely death in January 1982. Bruce was an outstanding citizen and a promising and dedicated politician. To honour his memory a scholarship fund was established with TTF in 2006.

Income from this fund will annually provide an award of $500 to two deserving graduating students from TDSS who are pursuing their studies at the University of Waterloo or if there are no candidates for that university then any other post secondary educational institution.
