Alfred & Kathleen Holmes Scholarship Fund

Alfred Mathew Holmes and Kathleen Dorothy (Simpson) Holmes were lifetime residents of the Tri-Town area. After Alf's decorated war efforts, they married in Haileybury in 1953 and settled in New Liskeard. Their entire life was devoted to the retail industry, first as employees in the family grocery store and then as the owners. It eventually evolved into a successful gift store. Alf continued his love of the Airforce by volunteering his time to the Air Cadets and Legion. Kathy enjoyed singing in the church choir, travelling and curling. They both loved the family cottage where they enjoyed its tranquility as well as entertaining friends and family. Always fond of their pets, many strays owed their lives to the couple's generosity and compassionate ways. To honour their memory, Patricia Sutherland has established a scholarship fund in their name. Each year a graduate of TDSS proceeding to post secondary education in the field of veterinary science or medical science will benefit from this memorial.
